Crafted Prayers - In light of our Holiday to the East Coast - 2019
Father, You are Love
You alone are One who dwells in Love on heavens utmost height
You alone are One who remains in Love in unapproachable light
You alone are One who reigns in Love with imperishable might
Yet, as of late, I have found as well
You dwell by Your Love in the deepest earthy reaches of
the Mammoth Cave as much as the highest peak of the Great Smoky Mountains
And everywhere in
between.
You remain by Your Love on the vacant battlefields of
Gettysburg as much as on the forgotten battlefields of Europe and Southeast
Asia
And everywhere in
between.
You reign by Your Love in the stone halls on Pennsylvania
Avenue as much as in the wooded hollows of the Appalachian Trail.
And everywhere in
between.
As of late I have found, again
You are the One true God who is
everywhere present and powerful and awesome and good
Because You are the One true God
who is in very essence Love.
Father, would You be to us this morning, these realities I
have found again, as of late, to be true?
Would You be present and powerful
and awesome and good to us this morning as we have gathered in this miniature
earthly space we call our church?
Would You reveal Yourself to us,
Your Church, to be in essence Love?
And may we be so bold as to ask –
humbly of course – ask that you share Your Love
with us, and in us, and even – in spite of our fearfulness – share Your Love through us?
For we are too often fearful
people. And there is no fear in Love.
But rather perfect Love – Your
Love – casts out fear
altogether. And that Love, that perfect Love, is the Love we hope
to both receive and give away to those we want to more perfectly Love.
And we ask these things in the perfect and loving name of
Jesus Christ Your Son. Amen.
